TRAININGS OFFERED

I provide workshops on a variety of topics related to mental health, wellness, stress, mindfulness and cultural competence.

LGBTQI CULTURAL COMPETENCY TRAINING:

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI) Cultural Competency Training is designed is to bring about positive, LGBTQI-affirming change in the participants’ knowledge, attitude and behavior towards LGBTQI clients. This training will also focus on how a provider’s personal beliefs, values, and culture can influence the way we listen, lead, speak to, and treat our clients.

The training teaches how to be culturally competent while working with individuals of all ages. This includes learning how to engage youth, couples, and families and ask questions in a non-judgmental manner while using the language and terminology that feels inclusive and affirming to the client. New York City represents a diverse population of people, therefore, this training has been developed to educate the participants of the differences in discrimination and oppression that many unique LGBTQI people experience every day.

The cost of training depends on the length of time and amount of participants.

VICARIOUS TRAUMA (VT) TRAINING

Vicarious trauma is something all too common that we can experience in the field. As providers, many of us are constantly exposed to hearing our clients share traumatic narratives. We might feel directly or indirectly responsible for our client's safety or well-being. For many of us, our work can start to negatively impact our life, worldview, relationships, and/or health. It is so important that we learn how to give ourselves permission to implement ongoing self-care.

Some examples of symptoms of VT:

- Avoidance of work, relationships, and responsibilities

- Nightmares

- Hyper-vigilance

- Easily distracted

- Isolation

- Constantly feeling tired

- Difficulty falling asleep or excessive sleeping

- Feeling like no matter how much you do, it’s still not enough

- Feeling helpless or hopeless about the future

- Intrusive thoughts/imagery

- Difficulty relating to others

- Using behaviors to escape (alcohol/drugs, food, caffeine, TV, etc)

The training will teach staff how to avoid VT. If VT has already happened, the staff will learn how to reduce its negative effects. This training will teach staff how to identify behaviors and tasks that take staff away from their work, and how to use effective time management strategies to navigate the many responsibilities. Staff will learn mindfulness techniques to increase their well-being and engage in coping mechanisms.
